Siemens Mobility builds trains and provides rail infrastructure solutions right here in Britain. We transform rail travel and transport with the imagination and ambition of 5,500 UK employees from Wales and Scotland to the South of England. Each line of code, every component we build, is a product of the people who build it.
We have three manufacturing sites. In Chippenham, we do signalling and research & development, in Ashby-de-la-Zouch we build control systems, customer information systems, telecoms and at our Goole Rail Village, we manufacture trains, including the new Piccadilly line fleet for the London Underground.
We work alongside 2,100 suppliers, 92% of which are based in the UK, and operate from 30 UK locations – including 13 train maintenance sites and infrastructure depots. Our trains make up almost a quarter of UK passenger trains.
Goole is where we will build our Desiro Verve battery trains, offering an integrated solution to replace Britain’s aging diesel trains for the new era of Great British Railways.
Our solution spans track and train, combining our advanced battery bi-mode trains with discontinuous electrification. This means only small sections of track would need to be electrified, with fast-charging at key points on routes supplied from the domestic grid via our innovative Rail Charging Converters which can be installed in as little as 18 months. This smart, scalable solution could save the UK an estimated £3.5 billion in maintenance and operational costs over the next 35 years, offering a cost-effective, low-carbon alternative for routes unlikely to be fully electrified anytime soon.
Siemens Mobility has invested up to £340 million across the UK. By doing so, we are supporting sustainable investment in transport, technology, jobs and growth in the wider UK economy.
